Apply Now For Seniors Program Funding
March 02, 2010
TOBIQUE-MACTAQUAC – Mike Allen, Member of Parliament for Tobique-Mactaquac and Atlantic Conservative Caucus Chair, encourages all eligible groups to apply for Community Participation and Leadership Funding under the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).

“I am very aware that our seniors have a wealth of talent, experience and goodwill that can help build the foundation for vibrant communities,” said Mr. Allen. “I am excited that the call for proposals under Community Participation and Leadership is now open.”

The deadline for applications is April 16, 2010.

The Community Participation and Leadership stream of New Horizons involves grants of up to $25,000 for community-based projects that encourage seniors to play an important role in their communities.

More information on the program can be obtained from any Service Canada Office or by visiting the Website www.hrsdc.gc.ca/seniors. Eligibility requirements, guides and forms are available through either of these channels.

NHSP has evolved greatly since its creation in 2004, with three streams of funding available. Besides Community Participation and Leadership, there is also Capital Assistance and Elder Abuse Awareness. The call for proposals for Capital Assistance Funding is expected in the fall of 2010, and the date for applying for Elder Abuse Awareness monies has not yet been announced.

“Projects funded through New Horizons not only support a wide range of community-based projects in the riding, but also help to ensure that our seniors are actively contributing to and benefiting from their communities,” said Mr. Allen. “We are committed to helping seniors enjoy the best quality of life possible and this program is one more way in which we are delivering on that promise.”

Mr. Allen stressed the importance of applying for Community Participation and Leadership funding before the April 16th deadline.
