Local Communities Share Over $21,000 in Canada Day Funding
June 18, 2010
TOBIQUE-MACTAQUAC – Communities throughout the region will display their Canadian Pride this July 1st, and that’s just what Tobique-Mactaquac Member of Parliament Mike Allen likes to see. “I find it heart-warming when families get out on Canada Day, wearing red and white and waving our flag to show their pride in this great country,” said Mr. Allen. Because Canada Day is such an important holiday, Mr. Allen is pleased that eight communities in the constituency received Celebrate Canada! funding through Canadian Heritage. “We tend to celebrate with parades, games, music, food and fireworks, but the best thing is the time people spend with friends and neighbours,” he said. With financial assistance totalling $21,000, these eight local groups and communities are able to hold functions of various types on Canada Day. Celebrate Canada! funding went to the Upper Nashwaak Lions Club Inc., the Village of Millville, the Town of Nackawic Recreation and Parks Department, the Village of Plaster Rock, the Tobique Wellness Center, the Village of Bath, the Town of Florenceville-Bristol and the Town of Woodstock. “These communities had their applications into the department on time, and their proposals met the criteria that had been set,” Mr. Allen said. “I truly hope these areas, as well as countless others in the riding, have wonderful Canada Day celebrations. “I will be at many of the events being held throughout Tobique-Mactaquac on July 1st.” |
